This workshop will introduce you to the traditional patchwork method of using templates, also known as English paper piecing.

The earliest surviving piece of English piecing dates back to the early eighteenth-century and it continues to be one the most popular and theraputic methods of patchwork.

The workshop will show you how to select and combine fabrics, how to cover the templates and join them together.

You can use the hexagon 'flowers' or stars to patch ane repair clothing or as an embellishment. If you would like to try this, please bring along a garment - jeans, jacket, dress - anything will do as long as it’s not stretchy.

Alternatively you can make a ball or three dimensional star which are lovely as gifts for young children, they could be hung or stuffed with lavender to make a scented drawer filler. Fabrics you use could include sentimental scraps from old garments, childrens’ clothes or even vintage linen.

Materials to Bring:

  • A selection of non stretchy cotton fabrics - a good mix of patterns, small, large, plain, striped and checks
  • General sewing equipment including needles, thread, scissors etc. and a thimble if you wish
  • Embroidery threads
  • Small buttons
  • Ribbon if you plan to make a hanging
  • Lavender if you choose to use this as your filling

Christine will supply the templates and stuffing for a small cost.
