These iconic Korean spherical vessels have a fascinating history and a very popular with makers and collectors alike. The original Moon Jars from the Korean Choson dynasty (1392-1910) were made from porcelain and thrown on the wheel. They were large and used as storage vessels. The Ashmolean Museum has a beautiful example of a Moon jar in its collection.

We will be using hand building methods and a lovely white earthenware clay.

Debbie will guide you at each stage:-

• coiling the clay
• using a hemispherical mould
• joining the sections
• forming and shaping the spheres and openings
• adding textures to the surface of the Moon jar

You will have time to make between 4 and 6 small to medium sized moon jars. You will be able to decorate your Moon jars using either terra sigillata or underglazes.

Debbie will provide full written instructions for interesting and straight forward technique.

The tutor will provide all materials and tools and will glaze and fire your work at a cost of £50, with optional postage of £12.
