In this one-day workshop, you will explore some approaches to creating a landscape in charcoal. Using both willow and compressed charcoal, you will be taking a look at several different techniques to create textures and effects in a single drawing.

Willow charcoal is a great tool to set out forms and tones before creating darker more permanent marks using compressed charcoal and white charcoal. A kneaded eraser and plastic eraser are used to lift off charcoal and to create lighter tones as well as making their own marks. Charcoal can also be used with water- mixing charcoal dust to water creates a rough ink that can be applied as a wash or brushing water over the drawn charcoal to create a soft velvety or blurred effect. The drawing would not be complete without finishing touches with white charcoal or chalk.

Suitable for beginners and improvers.
