An introduction to the world of traditional sign writing and gold-leaf gilding on glass, this class is suitable for beginners although some experience of handling a paint brush will be useful!

Through demonstrations and practical guidance, you will produce a stunning Victorian style circus letter, painted onto glass.

I will provide you with a template of your chosen letter which you will use as a guide to paint onto your glass. You will spend the morning practising painting onto glass using a chisel tip brush and enamel paint before completing your letter outline, ready for gilding.

You will explore different techniques of gilding to produce different effects, through examples and short demos. Then, you will learn the intricate process of applying gold leaf on glass to create a beautiful mirror gild using water mixed with gelatine. The addition of glitter inlay will create contrast and extra sparkle!

Complete with a backing colour of your choice and a frame to finish your beautiful typography artwork.

Materials Cost

£25 per person for:-

• Book of 5 leaves of 24ct Loose Gold-leaf
• GLASS with frame & backing board 148mm x 210mm

Alternatively, students may wish to bring their own supply of gold leaf, (please make sure to order LOOSE Gold and NOT Transfer Gold) and a small framed glass (APPROX size A5)

There are various options for gold leaf, ranging from 12ct white gold, 18ct lemon gold, 22ct rose gold and many other variations. Any real gold is acceptable as long as it is genuine gold leaf and is a booklet of loose sheets.

I will have spares to purchase at £15 for a small booklet of 5 leaves.
