The beautiful shapes of seedpods and plant forms will be used as inspiration to create batiks on tissue paper. Working with hot wax as a resist and inks you will use Jenny’s contemporary approach to this traditional technique.

You will use a range of traditional and nontraditional tools, think whisks & potato mashers! to apply the hot wax.

On day two you will embellish these batiks by applying nets and sheer fabrics to create beautiful layers of texture and colour. These can then be embroidered with free machiningy, Alternatively, you can bring needles and threads to hand stitch.

It will be possible to do two days of batik if you prefer and add stitch at a later date. This will allow you to explore the technique further.

If choosing to free machine embroider, participants will need to know how to put the darning foot on and have some practice stitching with the feed dogs down.

No experience in batik is necessary.
