Baskets are not always made from willow!

In this course you will use a variety of materials such as jute twines, cotton yarns, paper string and more to learn the technique of Twining - a very versatile basketry skill. This course is not just for "basket makers" - it is of interest to anyone who likes (or makes) yarns and twines - and perhaps is looking for a new technique to use that stash of oddments.

You will start using paper string to practice a basic method of beginning to twine by making a small sample piece, and then use colourful jute twine (with the option of including some other materials) to make a small twined pot. Twining is small scale work so please remember to bring your reading glasses if you need them. Although the materials are soft and flexible the repetitive small movements can be tiring for the hands. Please let me know if you are hard of hearing, so I can ensure you hear everything you need to fully participate in the course.
