Course Description

Over these three days you will be: Drawing, Cutting, Collaging, Editing and Painting your way to an Abstract Sunflower Design. Focusing on Colour, Composition, Shape and Tone.

Starting with careful observation and a loose drawing of some real sunflowers you will go on to create a collage in tonal papers using ‘Notan’ theory, a Japanese design principle based on the balance and harmony of light and dark areas in a composition. The following days you will take your ‘Notan’ design and abstract it further: you can then choose to paint from it in either acrylics, oils, or watercolour - or continue to collage in coloured papers.
