"Trees are the Earth's endless effort to speak to the listening heaven."
– Rabindranath Tagore
This workshop is for all who are inspired by Gustav Klimt’s half abstract, sometimes naturalistic depiction his forest trees.
We will begin by discussing the Impressionist’s colour theories together with those developed by Georges Seurat and look at the influence they had on Klimt's own use of colour, theories and principles of design and composition that will be an important element in this workshop.
You will go on to emulate the variety of colours, textures and shapes used by Klimt in his brush strokes by cutting and manipulating small pieces of fabric. You will learn how to adhere these fabric pieces to a hessian backing cloth before enhancing your textile with both free machine embroidery and simple hand stitching.
