Course Description

In this course we will learn the ancient craft of coiling. Coiling is a traditional technique and you may well have coiled items in your home - such as table mats or trivets. Larger items such as bee skeps are also coiled out of straw. A variety of materials can be used for coiling - yarns, ropes, grasses, pine needles, the list goes on and on. This means that this course could be of interest to anyone who likes (or makes) yarns and twines, and is looking for a new technique to use and showcase all those oddments.

You will learn the coiling technique using colourful carpet wools on a rope core to create a small mat or bowl.

This course is suitable for beginners or improvers alike. Please bear in mind, although the materials are soft and flexible the repetitive movements can be tiring for the hands.
