During this course you will use a variety of materials such as jute twines, cotton yarns, paper string and more to learn the technique of twining - a versatile technique that could be described as weaving without a loom, or loom free tapestry weaving. As you are not tied to a loom the technique can be used to create 3D forms instead of simply flat panels. The tension between the warp strands and the twining weavers is created by the way you hold and work with the seperate strands. This course is of interest to anyone who likes (or makes) yarns and twines - and perhaps is looking for a new technique to use that stash of oddments.
You will start using paper string to practice a basic method of beginning to twine by making a small sample piece, and then use colourful jute twine (with the option of including some other materials) to make a small twined pot.
Suitable For
This course is suitable for beginners or improvers alike. Please bear in mind, although the materials are soft and flexible the repetitive movements can be tiring for the hands.
Requirements List
- Weaving is a slow, mindful technique, however it is also small scale, so please remember to bring reading glasses if you need them.

- Large eyed tapestry needles in a range of sizes
- Any yarns or twines you might want to incorporate into your work
Materials Cost
There will be a charge of £5 to cover the cost of all tools and materials. This is payable directly to the tutor.
