Course Description

During this course you will learn about different types of wood, how to transfer your project into the wood and different wood carving and finishing techniques. You will look at the different types of chisels, how to use them safely, and how to sharpen them.

You may choose to work from a selection of prepared designs such as acorns, grapes, flowers, a green man or wood spirit but you may also work from your own ideas. If you choose work from your own project, please bring photo or print of your project.

Tuition will be through group demonstration and individual guidance. Depending on the simplicity of the design and any previous skills, you should aim to complete a minimum of one relief carved wall panel around 12” x 7” x 2” over the course of the week. This can be used inside or externally depending on the finishing technique.

Materials Cost

There will be a charge of between £15 to £60 depending on size of your wooden blank. This is payable directly to the tutor.

All tools are provided, however your are welcome to bring your own tools to work with or for advice on whether they are the best for any particular job.
