Course Description

During this is a two-day workshop you will explore the techniques of Drypoint Etching and Monoprinting and be guided through the process of working with an etching press to produce your own unique prints.

During this workshop you will learn:

  • How to use etching tools to create your image on an etching plate
  • How to use the etching press
  • Chine colle technique and other collage processes
  • Monoprint techniques that can be employed with and without the etching press
  • How to express a personal style through mark making, use of texture, colour choice and composition
  • Create prints from your own imagery

We will begin by selecting reference material to inspire your work and you are encouraged to bring your own sketches, drawings, photographs, or magazine clippings that are personal to you. We will then cover the basics of the press, printing plates, and tools before diving into the printmaking process.

You’ll learn how to etch your designs using a variety of tools while experimenting with monoprint and collage techniques. Prints will be created at an approximate A5 scale, using high-quality Caligo inks and mould-made papers.

Suitable For

As the workshop progresses, you'll also explore printing on fabric, incorporating colour, texture, and collage to produce high-quality, experimental prints using the etching press.

Step-by-step guidance, visual presentations, and demonstrations will support your learning in a relaxed and informal environment. The goal is to empower you with skills and confidence to continue exploring printmaking beyond the workshop.

This course is suitable for beginners or improvers alike.
