This exploratory two-day workshop offers a hands-on introduction to the expressive world of abstract painting. Designed for anyone curious about colour, form, and creative freedom, it invites you to explore painting as a language of emotion, rhythm, and intuition. Through a series of guided exercises, you’ll learn how colour can express mood, how texture adds depth, and how composition creates movement and harmony. Each activity is designed not only to teach technique but also to deepen your personal connection to your work and uncover your own visual voice.

Suitable For
This course is suitable for beginners or improvers alike.
Requirements List
- Surface to paint on - Stretched canvas, board or stretched heavy acrylic/oil paper no smaller than A3. A square format is also acceptable. If you choose to work on paper, please stretch paper on a firm board before the day of the workshop.
- Standing easel or desktop easel
- Palette - there will also be disposable palettes available for mixing paint
- Brushes - please bring various sizes- preferably long handled and for use with acrylics
- Palette Knife - various shapes. Alternatively bring an old credit card or flexible filler scraper
- Acrylic colours – Ensure that you have at least the three primary colours, white and black. Please bring all that you have
- Containers - 2 small jars or plastic cups for your water
- Putty rubber
- Soft pencils- 2B to 6B
- Old clothes to wear or bring an apron
- Latex Gloves - optional
- Please bring reference images that might inspire you in your painting-preferably printed onto A4 or on a digital tablet/iPad
Materials Cost
There will be a charge of £4 to cover the cost of materials listed below. This is payable directly to the tutor.
