The illusion of space and depth in representational paintings can be mystifying and challenging, but is very important as without this element paintings are flat, boring and lifeless.
By the end of this one-day workshop, participants will be able to:-
- Identify and apply six key techniques for creating depth — including aerial perspective, overlapping forms, tonal contrast, scale, edges, and colour temperature
- Experiment with layering and brushwork to enhance a sense of space and depth within a landscape
- Apply techniques using acrylic paint to produce a landscape with convincing depth and atmosphere

This course is suitable for beginners or improvers alike.
Requirements List
- Sketchbook or loose paper- heavyweight paper preferred
- Watercolours or acrylic paints
- A selection of brushes- round and square head brush- small to medium sized. Hair, artificial hair and soft bristle acceptable
- Pencils and pens
- Drawing board
- A desktop easel would be beneficial
- Printed images that you wish to paint from
Materials Cost
There will be a charge of £3 to cover the cost of materials listed below. This is payable directly to the tutor.
