Chinese Brush Painting

Saturday 10th August 2024 for 1 day — Cost: £60

Tutor: Desmond Chung

Bookings for this course have now ended

Together we will explore one of the traditional Chinese painting topics, the “four gentlemen”. These consist of four plants, the plum blossom, the orchid, the chrysanthemum and the bamboo.

You will learn basic compositions and the technique of using ink and water only, before moving on to applying colour.

This course is suitable for both beginners and those already with some experience in Chinese painting. At the end of the course, you will take home at least four paintings, one for each of the plants, or “gentleman”.

Please bring the following:

  • Standard Chinese painting colours: white, vermillion, carmine, indigo, gamboge, burnt sienna, malachite (Marie’s 12-colour set will contain these and is available on Amazon
  • Palette or at least two white plates
  • Container for water
  • Felt or old towel to put your painting on and to absorb the excess water (not too rough)

The tutor will supply:

  • A set of two brushes
  • Chinese ink
  • 10 sheets of Xuan paper (raw or semi-sized)
  • Ink and colour
