Together you will explore one of the traditional Chinese painting topics, the “four gentlemen”. These consist of four plants, the plum blossom, the orchid, the chrysanthemum and the bamboo.

You will learn basic compositions and the technique of using ink and water only, before moving on to applying colour.

This course is suitable for those with some experience of painting. At the end of the course, you will take home at least four paintings, one for each of the plants, or “gentleman”.

Please Bring the Following;

  • Standard Chinese painting colours (e.g. Marie’s 12-colour set)
  • A few (4-5) brushes of varying sizes
  • Palette or at least two white plates
  • Container for water
  • Felt or old towel to put your painting on and to absorb the excess water (not too rough)
  • Chinese ink
  • Xuan paper (raw or semi-sized, around 10 to 15 small/medium size sheets
