The course assumes the student is a beginner and starts with a Health and Safety briefing and an explanation of the tools and how to use them.

You will start with a pre-made base supplied to make a 16 rib basket, students are shown how to fit this to the jig. Students are shown how to cut, slipe and insert the correct size and number of ribs for the basket they wish to make. Weaving is started with simple pairing and indeed pairing is used throughout the basket building up to multiple strands in each of the two groups as the space between the ribs increases. The basket is finished with a simple track border and twisted rush handles can be added if desired. Also, a base can be made for the next basket.

Materials Costs to Students
