This workshop is for improvers who like fabric collage and slow stitching. If you wish to bring your sewing machine you are welcome.

On day 1 of the workshop the tutor will begin by showing you how to put 2 or 3 fabrics together for the background and create a collage of fabric, lace and paper to use for the vase/jug. There will be a choice of templates available for the shape of the vase/jug and to guide you when it comes to cutting out. You may prefer to take inspiration for the shape from a vessel of your own. Bring in a sketch and photograph for this.

The next step will be to begin adding fabric to suggest flowers, seed heads and leaves. The tutor will pick out some fabrics and lace and show how they might suggest honesty and flowers and place them in the work.

On day 2 of the workshop you will be shown ideas for developing your piece of work further with simple hand stitching. This will include running stitch, back stitch, stem stitch, and French knots. There will be further ideas for adding vintage charms and you will be shown how to make a suffolk puffs to extend the piece.

The tutor has an extensive range of hand and free machine stitched sample pieces for this project and ideas to extend your work further at home.
