This three day course is an introduction to needle weaving. Using a circular (bicycle) wheel students be shown how to set up the wheel with the warp and will then will experiment with different weaving stitches to create colourful and textural pieces. No previous experience is needed.

It is useful to have an idea for a theme but do not try to be too pictorial: i.e. autumn colours, beach patterns, pebbles and beach-combing.

Material Requirements

You will need a sharp pair of scissors such as embroidery scissors. I will provide a wheel, thread and one large darning needle per person and I also have a selection of wools and yarns. However, if you can, it would be useful to collect as much wool/yarn/raffia/ torn strips of fabric (such as sari silks or home made strips) etc as you can find, beg or buy. (You could choose a colour theme such as autumn colours or just use what you can find). Try and get a range of thicknesses and finishes. You might choose to work in neutral colours and dye them later. Anything else you think you could weave into your wheel – sticks, washers etc.
