Course Description

We will start by using the premade base then stake up with 28 stakes, slyped on the belly and inserted into the base either side of the 14 ends of the base sticks such that the slypes are facing downwards when the basket is the correct way up.

The upset will be 2 sets of 3 rod wale chasing each other starting on cut down tips to give 12 rods in total in the upset, the first lap will be a pull-down wale.

The sides will be English randed starting the butts on the outside using 5fts, we will need 3 sets. Reinforcing pegs are inserted on the right-hand side of 4 consecutive stakes and the same on the opposite side of the basket where the 2 integral handles will be. Count the stakes to ensure that the 2 handles are opposite each other.

The top wale will be a 3 rods wale with 2 sets chasing each other using 12 rods in total. 2 rows will be woven flat on top of the basket and the final 2 rows will be allowed to flow up and down to create the handles. Care must be taken to ensure that there will be no joins in the wale where the handles are.

We finish with a 5 rod behind 2 border. If time a foot will be added. We will then make a 3 through 4 round bases 10 -12” diameter, for the next basket.
