Course Description

You will learn about the history of marbling and European heritage patterns while on a practical level, how to prepare their marbling bath, papers and paints. You will practice marbling on a variety of smaller papers to understand the opacity and how the marbling looks on different paper weights. You will make patterns by flicking or dropping paint onto the surface of the marbling bath tray and use a stylus, or a comb rake to make patterns. You will build up pattern knowledge to experiment with creating more complex heritage patterns.

On the second day you will learn bookbinding techniques and simple leatherwork to create stitched notebooks. You will line your leather cover, learn how to edge and protect the leather, and hole punch rivets. There is an option to personalise your cover in embossed gold foil. You will go on to learn saddle stitching to insert the notebook.
