Rachel O’Connell is a multi-media marbling artist, leatherworker and educator, who lives in South Devon. With over 30 years marbling and textiles experience, Rachel marbles on paper, natural textiles, including leather and on wood. She creates marbled textile wearable art, jewellery, home decor, lighting, wallpaper panels, stationery, books, gift wrap and marbled leather goods.

Rachel has worked in state education, for charities who offer overseas teaching and outreach art projects and in finance. She began marbling as a teenager on a school trip to Turkey and continued training with artists across the world. Whilst living in Canada 15 years ago, she learned the ancient art of Suminagashi ink marbling and the skill of saddle stitching leather for upholstery.

Rachel turned professional, launching her sustainable brand, ROCWORX®, in 2021 and has sold work in The British Museum, Manchester Art Gallery, Dulwich Picture Gallery, Brantwood Museum, Weald and Downland Museum, Craft Festival, Handmade Oxford and at London Craft Week. Her work can be found in galleries and independent shops in the West Country. As a sustainable maker, she repurposes theatrical textiles and ballet slippers received from the Royal Ballet and Opera and tea bag paper and food packaging received from Taylor’s of Harrogate, with proceeds from sales going to the food bank charity, Trussell Trust.

Rachel is a tutor with West Dean Art College and with the charity, The Creative Dimensions Trust. She tutors for Arts Council’s National Saturday Club, as well as being a volunteer for Speakers for Schools. She demonstrates marbling with Heritage Crafts and at Craft Festival. Rachel also runs workshops from her home studio in Devon, teaching marbling, bookbinding, lampshade making and leatherwork.
