Course Description

Create a life sized, 3D fibre sculpture of a vibrant ruby throated hummingbird; feeding from a hibiscus flower. Using carded wool, wire, sheet felt and fine merino; we will utilise a wide variety of needle felting techniques to build the elements, and combine them into this gravity defying design.

On day one, we will create the hibiscus plant complete with open flowers, leaves and buds. You will receive enough materials to add extra flowers if desired. Day two will be spent crafting our tiny hummingbirds.

The course covers several topics - working from templates, building a core, adding and blending wool colours, constructing a stable armature, and combining felt fabric with needle felting.
