Oxford Summer School

Sarah Richards

I started needle felting as a hobby when I was looking for a craft that was easy to pick up and put away, as I had a young child and not much free time. I instantly fell in love with this amazing and very versatile art form. Felting offers endless opportunities to sculpt, decorate and embellish; and it’s wonderful that each and every object I, or my students create is unique. Working with wool usully throws up surprises, is sometimes challenging, but always very rewarding. It is not a fast craft, but very mindful as the poking action of the needle, and the tactile nature of the wool soothes you as you work. It is magical, as you see your creation emerging from the fluff!

In 2016, I began teaching at my local craft group which has developed into a small business. I now teach classes at venues in Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire, I work with charities and community groups, as well as running my own workshops and creating needle felting kits.
