Course Description

Join me for a fascinating and creative day exploring the experimental process of cyanotype printing. Using a range of botanicals, pressed flowers and leaves, shapes and negative images you will learn to create beautiful images using northing more that the power of UV sunlight. This process creates stunningly detailed, natural images in shades and tones of vibrant blue.

You will also learn a little of the history of this type of printing and how it has been used to document plant specimens and was the original for of architectural and engineering blue print reproductions.

The practical, relaxed, hands-on workshop will guide you step by step through the process of making your own cyanotype print, starting with creating and coating your paper and then composing your image using the botanical items. We will then expose your print with UV light and finish by washing and fixing the final image.

Once you have experimented with the basic process, you will then be guided through bleaching and tinting, creating a double exposure style print or printing onto fabric tote bag.

This course is suitable for beginners or improvers alike.

Materials Cost

There will be a charge of £10 to cover the treated papers, fabrics, botanicals, tote bag. This is payable directly to the tutor.

If you find that you enjoy the process of cyanotype and would like to continue with this after the course then there will be a starter kit available for you to purchase.
