Oxford Summer School

Laura Degenhardt

Laura is an artist living and working in Oxford. She ran the life drawing programme at Oxford Brookes University from 2019 to 2022, and has taught life drawing at Abingdon and Witney College, Sunningwell School of Art, and the Ruskin School of Drawing.

The focus of Laura's practice has always been and continues to be drawing and painting from life. Her approach is experimental, working with every student as an individual to see where they want to take their exploration of drawing methods and processes.

Laura holds a Master's in Fine Art from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, graduating in 2011. In a former life, Laura was a publisher's editor. Her work took her to the Middle East after she had completed a degree in English Literature at the University of Cape Town. She worked in Publishing in Oxford before enrolling on the Fine Art degree at Oxford Brookes University as a mature student. Laura's first teaching experience after completing a teaching qualification was working as a Fine Art lecturer on a Foundation Art and Design programme where a range of exploratory processes and ideas were encouraged so that students could find their own feet. She still loves to work and teach in this way, and the rest is history!
