Oxford Summer School

Linda Miller

Linda Miller BA Hons studied Textiles at Winchester School of Art and after graduating in 1988 her Dad lent her the money to buy a new sewing machine and she set up her full-time studio practice. Working from the Sorting Office Studios situated in the heart of Eastleigh, Hampshire, Linda continues to make her one-off machine embroideries using her distinctive and unique style. Ideas and inspiration for her work are gathered from the world around her.

Linda’s colourful, naïve and narrative embroideries contain figures and animals set in the outdoors all with their own stories to tell. Her work is successfully exhibited both locally and internationally and she has work held in public and private collections such as those of the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Arts Council. As well as the author of two books, Creative Machine Embroidery published by A&C Black and Stitched Pictures published by Crowood Books.

Linda regularly gives slide talks and lectures about her professional practice and holds stitching workshops for all abilities and ages. She enjoys sharing her enthusiasm for textiles and her love for Machine Embroidery. She still sews with the sewing machine that she bought after graduating and paid back her Dad soon after!
